I got a 100$ foodsaver from costco when it was 50$ off. Haven’t had any problems at all

I have a Cuisinart and it works fine. Never had any problems. I don’t know what I paid for it but I don’t recall it being particularly expensive.

Ended up with an Avid Armor, have heard/read nothing but good things about them.
Really the only option for a chamber vac costing less than $1k

I have read good things about avid armor. I was looking at their chamber vacs but wound up going with a Vac100 from JVR.
My foodsaver crapped out so I needed another unit quick for some food I needed to seal. I didn't do much research and picked up the VacPak-It VME16SS from the webstsurant store. I got that one because it does a 16" wide bag and was in stock in my price range. I knew I had the Vac100 on order (presale for the updated model) so I didn't want a normal-sized 12" sealer. I went 16" so I could do larger odd-shaped things that the vac100 couldn't do. One of the reviews I saw after said no replacement parts for it so that sucks...and while it does work well you have to make sure you set the food in the bag right so it sucks all the air out before sealing it. I would look around more for a different brand if I had to do it over.
Now I did just finally get my vac100 and ran it last night for the first time...and I'm in love. First time running a chamber vac and the quality of what they do is awesome. I was looking at the larger avid armor unit but came across a YT channel (fireandwater) that really liked those avids but then did some side-by-sides with the vac100 and he started to use it full time.
This unit is built like a tank (53lbs) and feels really well made. Super easy to pop it open to do maintenance if need be (JVR sells all the parts on their site). Has an oil pump that is stupid quiet. Comes with some blacks to take up space in the chamber for smaller items that make it run faster with less volume to vac. I will say it (and most other chambers) is pretty damn big, but I have counter space in my pantry for just those kinds of things.
Watch some of the TY vids from fire and water on it and he also has/had a code "fireandwater" that took $100 off my unit. EDIT to add the code still works. I had gotten the 3-gallon chamber for free as well but that was during the pre-order time.
EDIT to also add, you can use this and other chamber-style vacs to seal a bag externally if the right bag is used. I had asked JVR when I placed my order if their unit can seal bags on the outside for stuff like racks of ribs or long fish filets. This was his reply...

First off thank you for pre-ordering our JVR Vac100, I'm sure you're going to love it! As for you question in regard to using the machine for external vacuum sealing. Yes, it is capable of this if the correct type of embossed vacuum bag is used. We've tested a variety of embossed bags and some work very well while others do not. Some embossed bags have a very shallow embossment that will pinch off easily if too much pressure is applied while others will still provide a pathway for the air to be removed. We are currently working on a solution for this in order to make all embossed bags compatible with our machine so please check back with us in a few months.
