Last year Spindletap sold them at $16 a 4 pack.

Was last year's version DDH?

Meh. It didn’t have a $5 required donation built in

I guess I’ll find out tomorrow about OJD2 , but how was V1?

Was it more like a Parish IPA or more like a Spindletap IYO?

The reviews from BA last year look good

this is reminiscent of a Ghost in the Houston Haze, which means a nice balance of creamy, slightly bitter, and somewhat dry interpretation. Very well done.

It had much more Spindletap dna than Parish.

I would expect the opposite this time.

Is the complaint that Parish went up $5 from last year or is the complaint Parish went up $5 over DDH Ghost

Because last years OJD was not DDH and this one is correct?
Also, Ghost is 12oz bottles, this is 16oz cans, so more beer correct?

All valid points. The irony there is the $5 per 4 pack "donation"

It is what is. It's kind of a joke at this point (I think).

I still bought some. Parish and Spindletap are both awesome.
There's 0 chance it won't be good

Had they just listed the price as $22 with proceeds going to Hurrican relief would that have been better?

If the $5 actually goes to hurricane victims and not a donation to the Red Cross, then I'm actually cool with it and hope they do it again. Lord knows we've been hit by hurricanes and would like for a popular brewery to do something.

I hope thats the case.

At the end of the day, this will be a high end brew

Couple things from the prior batch

(1) There was a DDH process

BC: Combination of both of your hops, eh? Which ones!? ??

G: Massive amounts of Citra and Motueka (double dry hopped) leading the way, complimented by a few others.

(2) ST donated all profits, not a fixed amount per 4 pack

This SpindleTap and Parish Collab is going to be a blessing to a few folks here in town. Both breweries have agreed to donate the profit from all of the beer sold to Harvey relief efforts in Houston.

They’re expecting to raise somewhere in the neighborhood of $200,000 when it’s all said and done.

LINK

I am sure we can do the math on the expected amount produced x $5 per 4 pack

Isn’t this also going to mark the start of Parish distro in Houston? Thought I read somewhere that they were sending kegs across state lines.

Definitely pricey, but $5 per pack goes to hurricane relief so that's a good thing.

I'm all in favor of hurricane relief but even subtracting that $5 still equates to $4.25 a beer before tax. I love a good craft beer as much as the next guy but prices seem to be getting more and more out of hand.

Very good read. Thanks for posting

Nice to hear about the background of the collab

quote:

We came up with recipe/game plan together, combining our respective techniques for brewing the style. We’re using a combination of both of our hops. Other than it being brewed here in Houston [for obvious reasons] and me being the one to physically brew and cellar it, it was really a collaboration in the truest sense of the word.

Basically, the goal was to make a Houston Haze Ghost in the Machine hybrid.

Any of you guys out there yet? How is it if so?

I probably won't be able to swing by there until later this afternoon to pick up my preorder

Is the brewery matching what people donate or just forcing the customers to donate?

Brewery isn't forcing anything

$5 from each sale goes to recovery efforts

They jacked up the price $5 effectively forcing you to donate if you want to buy the beer.

obviously they aren't making you buy the beer. But you can't buy it without being forced to donate $5.

Buy it or don't buy it. People are now complaining over donating $5 to a hurricane relief? How sad.
