Why though?

Just what this town needs...another steakhouse. Glad someone is finally doing something with that Jimmy Chew's space, that place was open for 2 weeks.

That was the most surprising part to me. Shepard isn't dumb. He knows this. So why? I'm sure it will be great, but it's not really what we need.

Yeah.

Disappointed he's ditching the seafood rendition of 1/5...was most excited about that version.

While I have you, the wife and I are going to spend the night downtown on the 29th. Is Ortega's new place my best option these days for good anniversary restaurant and hotel in one?

Any other good hotel restaurants downtown worth trying?

I enjoyed Oxbow 7 - it's Bryan Caswell's new restaurant. Haven't been to Ortega's spot, but I've heard from several people that it's really good.

Thank you. I'm a big fan of Caswell, so Oxbow 7 sounds like a good idea.

I went to Xochi last weekend for the first time for brunch. I wasn’t impressed...maybe dinner service is better but his other two outposts are head and shoulders better to me.

I would think Potente deserves a look as well. I'd consider it an excellent downtown date night spot for an anniversary. Danny Trace, late of Brennan's Houston, is at the helm.

yeah that would have been interesting.

I had a great meal the time I tried the one-fifth steak.

Looking forward to Mediterranean too though.

Good place, but didn't knock my socks off. Damn fine pork belly they made there, however.
