Friends,

The Food Board is getting some love from a few of these places' Facebook pages. Remember when Mo Jeaux denied my attendance at Patsy's of Patterson?

Disappointed there is no Detroit style pizza, but I will excuse you if you have never been up this way.

quote:

Detroit-style pizza is rectangular with a thick crispy crust and is traditionally topped with Wisconsin brick cheese, with the sauce layered on top of other ingredients rather than directly onto the crust. The pizzas traditionally are baked in the industrial parts trays designed to hold small parts in factories.

I believe Austin, TX has a franchise called Via 313 where you can get it.

Friend, The best pizza I ever had in New Orleans was from The Deli. The Deli, as I recall, was in the 1500 block of Melpomene on the uptown side. This was mid to late 70’s. The best pizza I have eaten was John’s Bleeker st. Perhaps Uncler recalls The Deli.

Regarding the old Pizza Hut, I concur with TulaneLSU. I miss the taste of that pizza, which began to deteriorate after Pepsico acquired Pizza Hut in the late 1970s.

Also, the best calamari dish I have ever eaten was at Scoma’s in San Francisco. They were famous for their abalone, which was also incredible, but the calamari dish in that spicy red sauce was absolutely wonderful.

De Lorenzo’s was the first “legit” pizza I ever had. I was not disappointed.

I make Roberta’s crust recipe at home and cook it on my BGE. So, so good.
