Traveling with Crawfish - Advice

Originally from Tennessee, will be heading back for mom’s 75th birthday in 2 weeks and will be bringing live crawfish to boil.
Any suggestions on how to keep them alive for the 8 hour drive? I’ll be in my truck if that helps.
Will be buying 100 lbs for about 20 people. I see that select is almost double the price, do you get double the meat or should I get a little more than 5lbs per person if getting select?

Cooler and put the crawfish on top of a bag of ice or a bunch of cool packs, put some kind of towel or sack between the crawfish and whatever you are using to keep them cold. That's what they do to ship them by air up here when I get them.
If it is for Tennessee people, they won't eat 5 lbs a person if they aren't use to eating them. Plan for more veggies and sausage. 1 to 2 pounds per person is what I plan based on Tennessee people that don't eat them often.

I just did a boil for a little over 20 people, ~15 or so had never had crawfish. 4 Louisiana people ate a good bit of a sack, the rest ate maybe 10-15 pounds. They did eat the frick out of some sausage, potatoes, and corn though.

Good deal, thanks.
I was reading up a little online and saw that you should keep them wet or moist but not submerged..what the reasoning behind this? Should I take a gallon of water and dump over them every few hours?

Submerged and you'll kill them.

Keep in mind those shells will be pretty hard in two weeks

I do this several times a year and what I found works best is to stack 3 - 2" by 6" by 18"-24" boards in a large ice chest. Put a few inches of ice on the side of the boards but don't cover the boards. Lay crawfish on top of boards. Place towel on top and sides of sack and put more ice on top and sides.
Keep drain plug open until you are ready to transport. I travel between 8 and 10 hours and will stop once to drain water. When I get to my destination I place the chest on the ground tilt it and open the plug until ready to boil.
If they won't be cooked until the next day I lightly spray with water a few times.

Just drove 9 sacks down like this 2.5 hours last night in an open top trailer and had no more dead than usual this morning. It was perfect.
