Louisiana, Florida, New York (NYC), Texas, either Georgia or South Carolina

1. Louisiana (by far!)
2. New York
3. Texas
4. Illinois - Chicago
5. California
Regarding the FL posts: I have to say that I've been really unimpressed by the food in Florida. I lived there for 8 years and the best food I found was in Miami. It still wasn't enough to put it on my top 5 though.

Cali has by FAR the best overall produce. You have to consider the wines as well since wine is food.

Like Texas, Louisiana does a couple of categories very well.
California does about a dozen very well. Heck, you could put Napa/Sonoma Valleys up against any other state, and have an argument. Not to mention the state's access to the freshest produce and best variety of seafood in the country.
It really isn't close and any unbiased foodie would put Cali. #1 every day.
NY would likely be #2. Every other good food state has it's "specialty" for the most part. I put a lot of weight on variety and quality. Cal & NYC are just above everyone else considering those criteria.

Hawaii is a good pick..I hadn't considered it. Never been there though, just seen it on food channels.
