Las Vegas might not contain each of my top favorite individual US restaurants, but it would have to be #1 as a city overall on my list. I don't think I could ever get bored with the culinary experiences there.
Now if we're talking about grocery food (vegetables/seafood, etc), anywhere in California would have to be my top pick.

As a Nola native, the food here is great of course. But I have to say, I've had some of the most incredibly delectable dishes in Miami. From mouth-watering Cuban sandwiches to Cuban crackers...om nom nom. The only Nola restaurant I've found that has similar food is Maya's on Magazine St. I can't eat the crap from Chevy's, Superior Grill, and Serrano's after eating in Miami and Maya's in New Orleans. Baru which is Uptown nola is overpriced (and to make a long story short), the waitress tried overcharging us when we went. It's not that I don't like traditional Nola food, but growing up around it, I don't tend to eat the traditional food too much. Usually my mom makes jambalaya and gumbo in the wintertime (too heavy in the summer), and crawfish is alright. Not my favorite; same with shrimp. I prefer Florida seafood (Destin has amazing fish, IMO).
Overall, I'm not too impressed with Northern food from my personal experience. Boston food is meh, New York had good food, but not as great and awe-inspiring as some people make it out to be.
As for Atlanta, I was very impressed with a restaurant called Agnes & Muriels. Yum yum yum.

Or Harris, Bech, Zemanick, Schulte or Vizard. Plus about twenty others. What a tool.

Me too. Miami is a truly international city with a dynamic and evovling cuisine.

1) New York
2) Chicago
3) San Francisco
4) New Orleans
5) Miami
IMO that's a pretty right on list. All corners of the US are fairly represented. All cities inarguably have their own distinct food culture and can make claim to the invention of several American dishes or drinks. Also, all cities have multiple well respected restaurants and chefs.

Hard to argue with that. I think the top three are pretty solidly placed. NO, Miami and LA could all be debated on their merits.

I am not sure any city comes close to NOLA in obsessing about food. 90% of lunch/dinner conversations are about past meals or future meals.
Well, WTFelse is worth talking about during a good meal?

I don't even know if this is true.
Well considering that my primary experience with Baton Rouge fine dining has been the Laville cafeteria...
