I stand by that, Tigre. Gimmie your top 10 and I'll see if I can make any arguments for Stella! to bump one. If I see Gramercy Tavern in the list, it is automatically bumped as I ate there recently and while great, was not on the same level. Yes, I just went there...

i'll formulate a list later, but imo Stella! is too much of a novelty/gimmick to be top 10 US. great? yes. but i really think i might tire of it fairly quick.

There is not a doubt in my mind that this is correct. I'm talking one shot deal. That is why I say get it while its hot. Plus, at some point they will inevitably expand into other restaurants and then the party is over. Of course, my death row meal is a muff and a barq's, so what do I know.

A top-10 list from any regular poster here would be a cool thing. Also, I've never been to Alinea which I hear is crushing right now as well.

That's pretty awesome that you are coming from Canada to a game! One day I'll actually make it up to you.

If you do find yourself needing food in BR (say Sunday before leaving), try Parrain's for lunch. That will get you a good Louisiana experience.

Have fun and enjoy the sights, drinks and most definitely the food...bring your appetite because you likely won't want to eat for a week after your visit here because EVERYONE will want to feed you.

and it's not saying i don't like it, i do. a lot.

my questions are:

1. can it stand the test of time.

2. if Stella! was in a major food city that was more progressive and less true to old traditions and very specific local cuisines, would it get near as much hype compared to other places in the city.

It's been around about 10 years or so, and I think it's "hype" is only really limited to certain circles.

For whatever it's worth, I wouldn't think it's one of the top 10 restaurants in the country.

It is probably one of the top 10 places I'VE been though, so that's just educated speculation, I guess.

I think Stella! has definitely gotten better over the last 6 or 7 years, my take is that he is going to go the Besh/Emeril route and once that happens it will never be the same.

I don't think it is gimmicky in the truest sense of the word, I just think that Boswell has to be in there doing his thing for the food to shine. Once he is off taking care of other places I have my doubts. I think this is true of any cutting edge type of spot. Charlie Trotter's jumps to mind.

Commanders for lunch is an excellent idea.
If for some reason you can't make that happen, go line up outside of Galatoires at about 10:30 with bloody mary in hand. You will wait in line for a while, but the party in the place gets really good on Fridays for lunch.
The food ain't bad either.

Commanders, Galatoires and the Columns sound like a study in NOLA culture on a Friday afternoon. We were planning on playing TPC Louisiana that afternoon and taking in a high school football game that night. But I know that there will be a contingency of us that will lobby for the all day eating, drinking and people watching option. This will be a vigorous debate.

Can I assume that these places are also lively on Thursday (day and night)?

You guys are all right. The debate is: NOLA's best vs. tradition (ex. Stella v. K-Paul's). So little time so many options. All options will be discussed with my guys. Tough call.

That's pretty high praise. So you think chef Boswell is swimming with the big fish like Keller, Vongerichton, Achatz etc.?

I will take this advice. So far I am enjoying the suggestions, debates, invitations, and recipes.
