Do yourself a favor. Their ribs are by far better than dreamland.

I will next time I'm in town.

We got some BBQ delivered to us one time by a customer back when I lived in Bham. Best damn ribs and baked beans I ever had. The ribs came sauceless and the rub was unbelievable. The baked beans were more savory than sweet (hate sweet baked beans) and had big chunks of meat in them. I wish I could remember what restaurant they got them from.

For some reason I thought it was Legends or Uncle Sam's but last time I was in town I got Legends and realized it wasn't them. Maybe it was Uncle Sams?

Welcome to the neighborhood!

For pub style food, try Blackwell's Pub or Billy's Tavern. If you have kids, Yankee Pizza is a place to turn them loose. Doodle's is the local Italian ice place. Satterfield's is good for higher end sit down dining. Mudtown and the Pita Stop are somewhere in between. The Olive Branch is great for lunch if you like Mediterranean.

Chuy's and Flip Burger at the Summit are good (and packed). I haven't been to Sweet Bones in a long time (I BBQ a lot). There's also your standard California Pizza Kitchen and Cheesecake Factory there. Chuck's Seafood is down at the end of 280 and is a good higher end seafood place. Pablo's at the Colonnade and Zona Rosa at RiverRun are good Mexican places.

If you are cooking in, Sexton's Seafood and the NY Butcher Shop are top notch for seafood and steaks.

My wife and I have lived in Cahaba Heights since we both got out of college. It's a great place to live.

Birmingham gets ripped for its chains, but there are plenty of good eats around. You just have to know where to find them.

Don't let andouille read this. He'll be back to lecture you on the poor quality of each of the restaurants you mentioned and how you have no taste in food.

The NY Butcher shop and Sexton's are in the Heights Village shopping center on Pumphouse Rd. The steaks are expensive, but PRIMO. Sexton's supplies all the restaurants in Bham with seafood. The guy runs trucks daily to the gulf.

Blackwell's burgers are good. I love their pub nachos. I also like 200 beers on tap or bottle.

You didn't get caught up in that apt fire did you?

Nope. Thank goodness.

I'll check out those markets. Have to buy a grill first. And the expense of moving hit me hard. May just get a cheap walmart special until i can get a weber smokey mountain.

Hey smart arse, I gave him a rec for Mudtown Cafe already, not a single derogatory comment. B'ham can be a great place to live and raise a family, however it's food culture if far from what we are used to here.

Down from there on 280 is Chappy's Deli, they have a really good reuben and plenty of other good sandwiches and salads.

Finding someplace on 280 without a huge sign on the side of the road can be tricky. What is it close to and on which side?

Tried the Pita Place for lunch today. Had the steak sandwich. Pretty solid and reasonably priced. Nice chunk of thick cut fries. Good stuff.

Pretty soon I'll be grilling and smoking a variety of things for games on Saturdays. Won't be eating much out during football season.

"Your are in chain heaven there, try the Mudtown (Mud Town maybe) Cafe nearby. Great little joint, I've never asked, but I'd swear somebody connected with it spent a lot of time in N.O.."

Maybe so, but in typical fashion you couldn't resist a backhanded comment. Your hatred of the area is well documented on this board so maybe let the locals or those more familiar with the area offer recommendations instead.

Been living in Birmingham for three months and the wife and I love it. You should also try these places:

Slice (pizza, Five Points)
Gus' Hot Dogs (Crestline Village)
26
Chez Fon Fon

I also recommend saws BBQ. The loaded baked potato is the bomb. Packed with pulled pork and smoked chicken, cheese, green onion and I dump their white BBQ sauce on it.

I think Olive Branch has better food than the Pita Stop, but the Pita Stop is much nicer inside.

The NY Butcher shop has a great sandwich.

Gonna have to look them up for sure. The gumbo first, then the red beans and pork chop, then the lasagna.

Plugging it in to navigation now. Maybe try that this wknd.

To avoid you getting lost, take the exit immediatelty after the Wendy's you spoke about. Take a left on Hollywood. Stay straight 2 to 3 miles(Hollywood turns into Oxmoor) until you pass Dawson Baptist Church. Saw's will be on your right in downtown Edgewood.

Also, Chappy's sucks. Better off going to the Newks closer to your place.
