This thread didn't turn out like how you'd imagined it?

as long as the crust isn't too crusty so it tears the roof of your mouth up, I'm happy.

Guy's bread

What do they use?

I finally tried the bomb last week and really enjoyed it. I had always been put off by the idea of melted cheddar on a seafood poboy but I'm glad I finally gave it a shot.

Guy's makes their bread in-house if I'm not mistaken. Unless that huge table in the kitchen with flour all over it was for something else.

Well, that's not true now is it? S. LA doesn't have a patent on good french bread.

Where are you getting good french bread in Birmingham? I live in Montgomery. I'll drive up there.

I have never had french bread anywhere like they make in New Orleans.

A good poboy is about quality ingredients, which you can get in any number of places these days. You just have to pay a little more for the good stuff, which a lot of poboy places refuse to do.

Yes, no doubt. But, it starts with the bread. Albeit, you can't have crap ingredients and good bread. You have to have both. But, I can make good ingredients in my kitchen but I cannot duplicate the bread.

I'm hungry.

Wow, I'm not very observant. I guess I usually just order, pay, then grab a drink and sit down.

Well i live in BR, originally from near here, but used to live in nola for 2-3 years.

I do not like "new orleans" po-boys. And it's because of the bread. Just about every place that you go that has "new orleans style" po-boys translates into po-boys with hard, crunchy bread, that cuts your mouth, and looks like you smashed a whole sleeve of crackers onyour plate when you are done.

Sounds like you like Subs and Hoagies and not a Po Boy.

I know most people from Louisiana like po boys. I still think they are nasty, especially with fried seafood.

I love a Philly Cheesesteak. I love Louisiana food, as long as it is not as nasty po boy.

My co-worker loves this thread, since he ate a nasty North La. po boy for lunch (fried crawdad).

I'm nobody's alter. However, as of today, nine posters have emailed me to ask if I was chicken's alter.

List your favorite ten restaurants. I have a feeling Superior Grill or Outback is among them.

Outback is too crowded. I don't wait in line at some chain place. Superior is ok. I've been there 3-4 times, tops.

My favorite restaurants:

Mother's
Napoleon House
Prejean's
Two John's
Juban's
Bread Winners (Dallas)
Asian Mint (Dallas)
Perry's Steakhouse(Dallas)
Taverna (Dallas)
Arcodoro Ponodoro (Dallas)

Acme Oyster House if I want raw oysters

Poboys are the bomb.

quote:

You start with greasy fried seafood (the nastiest way to cook it) and add it to an oversized dry arse piece of french bread. Add shredded lettuce (which translates to the most putrid form of lettuce because shredding conceals flaws) and some overripe tomato slices then slather it all with Miracle Whip.

You do realize you don't have to put any of that on a poboy? I eat ham and roast beef poboys a lot more than fried seafood poboys. Sop that shite up with some gravy son.
