Apparently Blue Crab is having some permit issues and is working through a law suit as well.

have heard they have been running into major permitting issues and they have failed plenty of inspections.

This is what I was thinking. I guess finances stuff could be involved, but I doubt it.

I don't know any details. The owner of Pascale Manales relayed this info. He also mentioned how hard it is to get anything open on the lakefront due to the fact that you have to go through the city and then the state and then the core.

On a side note, I really hope they are better than Brisbis. I didn't run into any service issues while there, but the food just wasn't good. And judging by the half empty plates on everyone's table around us, it seemed others agreed.

Permitting and opening up a new restaurant takes a lot longer than people usually plan especially when building a brand new building. There is probably other issues with it being on the lakefront and outside of levee protection.

Taking over an existing restaurant is way quicker and easier to get permitted. There are newer codes and regulations on new buildings versus older buildings.

A family member of mine just went to a soft opening at Blue Crab last Friday so it must be close to opening. I think she said it should be a week or two.

I'm aware of all of that. Nobody, ever hits their planned opening date on restaurants.
I would have expected the worst of the permitting issues and screw ups with city/state would have been long past this stage of the project. I had just heard a few times that they were very close in late May/early June.

I'm happy to hear that they should be up and running soon as I'm sure that this has been a struggle.

I wonder what kind of lawsuit they're involved in. Maybe something related to the construction of the building?

How did it go over with the other owners that Chef Duke pulled out of the deal a while back?

Gotta disagree with this. I never think it's a good decision for someone without a restaurant background to own a restaurant. It never works.

Not sure I would say never, but it is a lot harder to run a restaurant than most people think. And it takes a lot more investment dollars than most people think. Most restaurants don't break even for a while after they open and require a huge investment to overcome this.
