Who has been? I see they're open from 8 until sold out. What time would I probably need to get there to make sure I get some food? I'll be in the area in about a month and I'd love to give it a try.

Never been but if a bbq place says they open at 8am until sold out then I would bank on getting there well before lunch. Not sure of usual line wait times but I'm sure you could search it on google. I would think doubling that time for a weekend morning would be realistic.

I was just reading about them yesterday. Seems they're only open on Saturday as well.

I've eaten there several times. It is a pleasant drive from Austin. I found it a funny thing to eat brisket at that time in the morning. That said, it was melt in your mouth delicious. They used an electric knife to carve the brisket and for some reason that bothered me. The bark was perfection. There was no wait the times that I went, but that was a couple of years after they first made the Top 50 Texas Monthly list. I'm sure the lines will be back up. Equally good to me during my decade in Central TX was Smitty's and Kruez's in Lockhart. Smitty's has a real classic bbq joint look that can't be beaten. I also liked Louis Mueller's in Taylor (another cool building) and Stiles Switch in Austin. Two thumbs down for the much raved about Salt Lick.
