Anniversary is this weekend. Never been, but wanted some feedback. Other options are Carrollton Market and Coquette.

ive been a few times, as the wife really likes it. She digs the setting of the old style mansion. A lot of the original details remain. The bar upstairs is cool. I think it is an enjoyable setting for an anniversary, tho i have been there on nights where it gets loud in the downstairs dining room.

menu changes but ...
gulf fish of the day is always good
jerk fish
hamburger

apps- corn fritters, boudin balls, have had some good salads there.

Been multiple times. Great atmosphere, enjoyed allllmost everything on menu. One disappointment.

And they typically have it during the warmest months. Not sure if it’s on the menu right now though.

Duck over frisée salad.

A simple duck over a mound of frisée.

Pretty much a tasteless dish.

Have a cocktail at the bar upstairs before dinner. I got the hamburger once and thought it was one or the best in the city and a crawfish dish the second time. Great ambiance and food was good enough to go back a second time. Hit up Barrel Proof down the street for cocktails afterwards.

I went maybe a year and a half ago and really enjoyed it. I believe the chef has change at least once since then, but everyone I've talked to who has been says it is still very good.

That said, I prefer Coquette.

It is a really beautiful setting for dinner. Great atmosphere. They do a good happy hour in the upstairs bar.

Never had a bad meal, but never had a wow meal either. I do prefer the food at coquette.

Maybe consider drinks and apps at Cavan bar, followed by dinner at one of the others?

They have a bunch of good Bourbon and do great cocktails but that’s about it, the bartenders are a bit pretentious. Back when it was Bridge Lounge trivia was GOAT.

I love Barrel Proof. Last time I went they had $3.50 old fashioned during happy hour.

Cavan is good but I think Carrollton Market is one of the best restaurants in Nola, obviously that’s subjective but I found it considerably better than Cavan and I really enjoyed Cavan.

How is 1.5 miles away down the street?

if I remember correctly, the owner even mentioned in an interview that he used his New York restaurant as a pricing guide

You must be thinking Kenton's because the Cavan owner doesn't have a New York restaurant nor has been involved in New York restaurants.

That being said, I love the place. The jerk-spiced fish with pineapple beurre blanc is the heat, also favorites are the salmon poke tacos and double stack burger. Wash that down with the Cavan mule (irish whiskey instead of vodka).

You are correct. My bad. I deleted my comment.
