Any suggestions on places to eat between New Orleans and Venice? Hole in the wall Cajun type places would be what we're looking for. It would probably be in the evening we're passing through

Salvo’s is about the only thing that strictly meets your criteria.
Otherwise, if you can make it to Venice Marina before dark, it’s nice to watch the boats come in to clean fish and have some beers with a shrimp basket.
Lastly, Tan Dinh is one of the best New Orleans Vietnamese joints on the West Bank and on the highway to Venice.
