I had lunch there when I was on jury duty a year ago. It was alright. I really loved eating there when Scott Varnadoe was chef.

That’s when we went pretty often.

It was a solid restaurant in the 2010 era.

We were there a couple months ago. Wife’s dish was average and mine was terrible.

We went in August and had a great meal. I had a steak and my wife had a fish special

ETA: she had the filet, not fish

Scott Varnadoe was a boss he did my rehearsal dinner when he was at Varnadoes in St Francisville. I think he was at IPO for a while, has he surfaced anywhere recently

I worked there when it first opened and Justin Ferguson (now BRQ) was chef and the food was great. I agree that it was still very good when Scott was there too but the last few times I have gone it's been very mediocre to poor.

He's the new executive chef at Juban's.

A month or two ago I think.

10/9 Business Report
quote:

In the kitchen: Scott Varnedoe is joining Juban’s as a chef, bringing 26 years of culinary experience to his new post. Most recently, Varnedoe oversaw the day-to-day operations for Rock n Concepts, which manages Lava Cantina at Perkins Rowe, Schlittz & Giggles downtown, and Rock n’ Pops. He has also previously served as executive chef for Restaurant IPO, Chef John Folse & Company and Stroube’s. “My goal is to continue doing what Juban’s does well, while being creative in the menu process so that we appeal to the ever-changing culinary scene, at home and outside of Baton Rouge,” Varnedoe says in a prepared statement.

If you want to sample some of his new stuff, if you go to happy hour there, that’s where he will be trying out some new items
