I checked out the KrazyKajunCookware site and was looking at the Jamabalaya pots. My question is which size do I need? I usually cook for only my family, but could see cooking for a dozen or two on gameday. Is the 6 gallon adequate or should I go larger?

What say you food board?

5 gallon pot

You dont need larger than that. Really a 3 gallon would suffice and you would use it more. 6 gallon would be too big. 5 gallon pot would feed about 30-40 people. I have a 5 gallon pot and I use it for tailgating but I use my 5 quart to feed small group. If you go with their combo kits I would recommend easily the 4 gallon for the size you cook for.

yep

also watch when comparing there are imported pots and American Made. The American made usually are much smoother inside.
Imports obviously much cheaper.
careful because Krazy Kajun sells both.

Not that there is anything wrong with the imports.

I've also checked out the King Kooker brand, any thoughts on them?

Krazy Kajun tends to be higher quality than King Kooker from most I have seen.

Arent Krazy Kajun's typically already seasoned too? hard to buy a pot sight unseen I like to look at the pot and feel how smooth they are.

Also the antique shops in Denham typically have good deals as well.

There is a place just north of the antique district in denham that sells some for decent prices. He can find you what you need if he doesn't have it.

I would really be leery about buying sight unseen

don't waste your time with a small 5 gal pot.
if you cook alot you will outgrow it quick. i have a 20 gal which i think is perfect for me.
i don't like having my food up to the rim of the pot. it can cook 24lbs of rice or 3 lb of rice. easy to do gratons because of the room. i will fry the crap out of fish, fries, etc. plus if you can really cook people will ask you sooner or later to cook for a function. 5 gal won't cut it. talk to jambalaya cooks, and they will advise for a bigger pot.

for cooking for mostly family in Florida, I think 5 gallons is perfect.

I have a 5 and a 15 and I find myself using the 5 gallon more than the 15, even for our tailgates.

I'll agree once you master the 5 gallon pot, someones going to ask you to do a benefit or function. I know I have been asked to cook for 500 for a school benefit... My out is... 100 is the limit for my pot. thank you

Besides how many fish you frying that you cant do it in a 5 gallon pot..

For my family only jambs I cook in my 8 quart pot. It feeds 10 easily.

As far as your gameday jambs even if you have 24 people as you listed as your highest amount a 3 or 4 gallon pot would be plenty. Keep in mind there are always side dishes going with the jamb.

KrazyKajun has some good stuff. If you live near here come to Gonzales and go to Lamendola's Grocery. He sells all sizes of good quality pots and burners. He carries the pork temple meat there too.
Hope this helps.

i always tend to cook big. meaning i usually cook for cookouts, tailgates and such. hardly ever for family of 4. the fish part, it can fry 5lbs of potatoes at once with no problem. No need to purchase these new jet burner fryers. your pot will be versatile. buy what makes sense for you.
BTW - if you go see Shane @KrazyK you will get a better price.

Dude is having this pot shipped to Florida.. I think a 3 gallon is plenty. A 5 gallon being slight overkill.

If he went 10 or more then he better buy a whole hell of a lot of ziplock bags.

I think he thought he needed a 6 gallon pot. Which is hard to find in a dutch oven.

He probably didnt know that 6 gallons would feed 50 people.
