Ditto. My only concern is for me, my date, and the person serving my food. I'm not saying I might not take a doube-take if you're wearing something "out of place", but it doesn't bother me in the least bit.
i won't lose any sleep over it and it certainly won't affect my night out, but I do find it puzzling that people are so resistant to throwing on a pair of slacks and a jacket when dinning at a nice restaurant.
with that said, it is probably pretty challenging for a restaurant in a touristy city to enforce dress codes.
and Luke is pretty casual. i can't see shorts being an issue there.

I know this might come to a shock to some of you, but not everyone owns a sports coat or a "casual" suit

While that may be true, if a person can afford dinner at Commander's they can afford a sport coat.

It is not a matter of being able to afford anything. Some people have no desire, nor reason to own a sports coat.

It was a sad day when Commanders stopped requiring coats for men...
They don't "require" them, but when we made reservations for a trip in August, the e-mail confirmation "recommended" a jacket. I don't like wearing a jacket without a tie, but I want to try Commanders, so I guess I'll comply.

It's funny how these simple dresscode query threads always devolve into this.
It's also funny (ironic?) how conventional being unconventional has become.
But, yeah, nice shorts and a decent shirt would be fine at Luke.

Lazy? That makes no goddamn sense.

Sure. But presumably this means, among other things, they won't be going to any nice restaurants.

You think all-inclusives are lazy I think not wearing a sport coat at a fine dining restaurant is lazy.

I say, both are.

To me it's just a sign of respect to the establishment. It's a personal choice.

If the restaurant allows it, why should I bitch about it or let someone else's dress get me all up in arms? If I were a guy, I wouldn't wear a jacket in this heat, period. I'd only eat at Galatoire's in the cooler months.
Seriously, it just shocks the dickens out of me that folks get all red faced and upset over what someone else wears to a restaurant. Do you judge what everyone wears to weddings and other social events?
I've got bigger things to worry about than other people's dress like what I'm going to order from the menu.

I'm not going to get "all up in arms" or "red faced and upset" but it does disappoint me.

Yeah I don't really see the point of getting into an uproar about other peoples' dress. At the same time, I don't understand how grown men can act like being asked to wear a tie or a sportcoat is some kind of unconscionable torture. Both sides are convinced that this is very serious business.

Well, GG, my belief is that if I wanted to be around a bunch of yahoos, I'd go to the movies on Saturday night at 7:00 and see a lowest common denominator comedy!
To this day, I still don't know if these people are trying to be cooler than the next person, or if it's just stupidity.

Since you cannot control what other folks wear wherever you go, that may be the only thing you can do for the rest of your life, Brockie, other than seeking psychiatric care for this issue.
Me, I have enough stress in life. I'm not adding this stress to it.
