I think you have to spell it out...

This thread is about RESTAURANTS THAT HAVE CLOSED IN THE AREA OF SOUTHEAST BATON ROUGE...TYPICALLY BORDERED BY SOUTH OF I-12 AND EAST OF AIRLINE.

Hope that is helpfull...

I heard that the building they were in was insanely expensive. Supposedly the quality wasn't the same as the original. Those are the main two things I heard while working across the street from them, I never had any first hand experience with them though

i don't know about mandina's, but that building is awesome. it was a beauty 40 years ago, and still makes a great restaurant.

They did, I just considered it a closure since they moved. Maybe I shouldn't have done that.

actually, i think we may have gained 2 places when sammy's southern bistro closed down. i could be wrong about all this but, ssb was owned by gug's dad & smokie. when they shut down is when the gug's opened dempsey's & smoky opened the old prytania as george's...is that correct?

btw: anyone one know what kind of biz years ago was located where the george's on g o'neal is now? did prytania build that building? it seems that part of george's parking lot is where another building used to be at one point.

i need a south baton rouge historian in this thread.

When it first opened, the assistant principal at Woodlawn would go down there at lunch and watch for strays...
there was nothing else close to eat at at the time. I think he helped himself to some of the Colonels 7 herbs and spices while he was there.

the last guy that had tasty ribs and things had some pretty good food, imo .. his pulled pork sandwiches were really good .. his daughter was killed in a car wreck about three months after he opened and he was just never the same ..

i remember the sign going up, but inside it looked like they were remodeling .. i just don't ever remember it opening .. there are a shite ton of people in BR that don't belong in the restaurant biz.. but they keep opening them and closing them .. like major league baseball managers .. they just recycle ..

actually, i think prytania moved to jefferson before sammy's shut down .. i think that building sat vacant for awhile .. but you may be right ..

Skillet...just to clarify...my dad and Sammy owned Sammy's Sourhern Bistro 50/50. It was a great place but the expansion killed them. My dad sold his half to Sammy about 6 months before it closed and opened Dempsey's shortly thereafter.
