I like bourbon more. But the mashbills and aging potential of scotch make the highest end whiskys the best. The nature of the spirit allows for greater refinement.
Give me a mid-range bourbon over a similar scotch any day, but at the super premium end, scotch whisky rules.

The big difference is you can get solid bourbon for $20-25. You pretty much have to spend $40-50 for solid scotch. And definitely better scotch on the premium end.
Scotch doesn't really have mashbills though. You either have single malt, blended malt, and blend of grains.

That's kind of what I mean. More flexibility and use of barley. The best scotch beats the best bourbon.

I much prefer bourbon. Just can't get into the smokiness of Scotch.

Back on point. Bad bourbon is 100x better than bad scotch.
Scotch is more diverse. For example, Glenlivet 12 and Laphroig don’t even taste like the same type of whisky.
I still like a good bourbon over good scotch though.

Peated scotch is what you mean and they have plenty of brands w/out the peatiness.

Bourbon can be sweet; have vanilla, fruitiness and caramel notes. This is due to being 51% corn.
Scotch will almost never have these notes nor be very sweet.
You can also mix bourbon well. Scotch is not something you want to mix. Exception being very high end bourbon.

Love them both.
I buy more bourbon because it tends to be cheaper and I'm a sucker for store picks.
