Meatballs and BBQ Sauce or ranch to dip them in. I like to dip mine in parmesan garlic wing sauce, but that may be too much for the kids. To me, they're good warm or cold, too, which is nice.

We do sunflower seed butter as the peanut butter substitute. It has a little nuttier taste but my kids like it.

The favorite part of my kids’ lunches didn’t have to do with the food per se. I would buy those Hostess cupcakes that come in individually wrapped aluminum foil - maybe King Dons or Ding Dongs? Once a week, I’d put one in their lunch but I would take a Sharpie and draw the head of one of their favorite cartoon characters. It’s not that tough; find an image online and just do the character’s head.

More nut-free ideas--
-Cracker cut cheddar or pepperjack, pepperoni slices, triscuits, and sliced apple; again, just a riff on the lunchable.
-hunks of focaccia (make it or buy it) with a side of bolognese/meat sauce/marinara in the thermos for dipping. (Think breadsticks as a meal.)
--egg salad and tuna salad
--ramen noodles! Cooked that AM, they'll stay warm in the thermos & you can add a quartered hardboiled egg for protein. Garnish however your kid likes, whole kernel corn, chopped leftover rotisserie chicken, etc.
--rolled wrap sandwiches, sliced. Not my fave, but kids seem to like the pinwheel-style portions. Cream cheese + thinly sliced cucumbers + turkey is a tasty combo.
