Wife out of town, made brats and kraut last night (upgraded from hot dogs). My mom used to serve it with a side of mashed potatoes.

Not a damn thing wrong with that.
Last winter, I made Bigos (Polish Hunter's Stew) with some guidance from Polish co-workers. It's a stew with various types of pork and/or game, kraut, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, onions, and beer. I will make it again.
