What are the best places around the gaslamp/Petco Park area? I’ll be there early August.

The Noble Experiment is one of the coolest cocktail bars in the US. Gotta make reservations, though.

So many good places.

There are a lot of places you can't go wrong in Little Italy, but Bencotto is my personal favorite of the Italian places.

Born and Raised, I have to post every time SD gets brought up because it is the most over the top. Even if you don't want to do a full fledged steak dinner, go for their happy hour just so you can see how beautiful the space is. Check out both the inside and the rooftop bar.

Kettner Exchange or Searsucker both good.. Volcano Rabbit for interesting tacos.. Crack Shack is kinda gimmicky but the food is great

For bars, Noble Experiment is great as someone else mentioned. Don't go without a reservation. They won't let you in. I actually think Prohibition is a great craft cocktail bar too. Live music and pretty fun.
False Idol is a speakeasy style tiki bar. I am a sucker for this.
Cloak and Petal bar is gorgeous, great cocktails. They serve food too. Japanese, if you're into that.
Trailer Park After Dark is a funny place to get drinks. Literally decorated to be a trashy trailer park.

Obviously Ballast Point, Modern Times, etc. if you're a beer person.

I'll be in town a little after you. I'm sure there are plenty of new places since I was last in town, so report back.

Going in a week or two. There have been a number of threads on the travel board the past few months. Somebody updated with pics and suggestions. I’ll post when I get back.

Richard Walker's Pancake House will be close by and is good for breakfast. Go early or wait in line outside.

Landini's in Little Italy has good pizza by the slice.

Carnitas Snack Shack is a little walk, but have fantastic sandwiches.

If you make it to Ocean Beach, hit up Hodad's for a burger. Although, I think there's one downtown and another in Petco Park. But, I prefer the Ocean Beach location.

If you can, get away from gaslamp and see the different areas of the city. You're pretty much guaranteed to love the city as it is awesome. I'm jealous.

Yeah. Gaslamp is nice but it's not much different than other cities that have a decent downtown scene. The great part about San Diego is the beach-side areas, like Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Mission Beach. Go bar hopping in any of those areas and you'll have a good time.

Isola or Basic for pizza.
Whiphand opened not long ago and heard was really good.
Mister A's has incredible food and the best views in the city.
There are a few restaurants that could earn Michelin stars if you looking for that. (Juniper & Ivy and Addison's)

The Joint for sushi and good beer.
And I still love Point Loma Seafood for chowder and fish sandwiches.

Some DIs from MCRD took me to an "authentic" Mexican place that was in a sketchy (their term) neighborhood. Surrounded by a ten foot page chain link fence, plastic folding chairs and lawn chairs on a concrete patio. I ate mucho with gusto. It was fantastic. Have no idea of its name or how to get there. Maybe a concierge in the know could figure it out. Or go aboard the Depot and ask around. The food was super.
Edit: There's also an LSU bar in the Point Loma area. Also forgot its name.
