Saltgrass Steak House, a 50-restaurant chain owned by Houston-based Landry’s Inc., has signed a long-term lease for the building at 2450 S. Acadian Thruway formerly occupied by Coyote Blues and plans to open in the space late this summer.
The company will spend more than $2 million renovating the 8,500-square foot building, which has been vacant since Coyote Blues closed in mid-2016.

They are certainly going to take business from the Outback across the street. It is a damn shame Coyote closed however, as it was hands down the best restaurant Baton Rouge had to offer.

Baton Rouge is such a bastion of culinary experiences.

Saltgrass is gawbadge. Same conglomerate as Joe's Crab Shack.

Not a fan of Saltgrass and certainly not a fan of Tillman Fertitta.
But as Outback continues down the crapper, this will certainly be a better option than Outback for those who want an ok steak for an ok price.

Sadly some shitty chain is probably the only thing that would make it there

bullshite on both counts.
I can't think of a steakhouse that serves a better ribeye for less than $30. Care to name one?
Joe's Crab Shack on the other hand is gawbadge. That probably had a lot to do why Landry Corp sold it off to Ignite Restaurant Group about 10 years ago.

I went there twice and it was not good. Hands down the worst Fajitas I have ever had.

I've been to a few Saltgrass locations. I've been impressed with the quality of meat and service each time. Infinitely better than the garbage Outback chain. I can't speak for the place it's replacing, but I can just about guarantee you Saltgrass won't be going away any time soon. I believe they're one of the fastest growing concepts in America, currently.

While Saltgrass is obviously not on the level of a high end steakhouse, it is most certainly the best of the "affordable" steakhouse options. I have never been disappointed in any steaks I've had at Saltgrass. They will definitely do well in that location and it is a significant upgrade over Outback IMO

I agree. Saltgrass is a good value. Everyone can't afford Ruth Chris or some of the higher end steakhouses every time they want a steak. I've eaten at Saltgrass in Austin and I think Beaumont and that bone-in ribeye was pretty tasty. Their mac and cheese was good. I'll take Saltgrass over Outback any day!

I can't speak for their fajitas. The steak chimichanga with the southwestern mashed potatoes and corn grits for sides was my last meal wish if I were on death row back when I lived in Southdowns.
I'm sure the quality decreased tremendously in their last six years of operation. Baton Rouge does that to things.

Saltgrass like most other chain steakhouses sucks arse. The most money you can ever save is to learn how to cook a steak and run your own smoker. Steak and BBQ are way the hell over priced when you eat out.

I disagree with this, actually. There is a noticeable difference between a chain restaurant that gets all of their food shipped in boxes and frozen, versus one who gets their meat and ingredients shipped in (relatively) fresh and never frozen. I can't speak for the others such as Outback, but I've had a few conversations with the GM at the Saltgrass location in Colorado Springs. Essentially everything on their menu is made from scratch. Even their batched recipes such as potato soup are batched fresh in house every day from fresh ingredients. Their desserts are made from scratch, too. That makes a world of difference, IMO, and you can certainly discern the difference in quality between a Saltgrass and somewhere like an Outback, Longhorn, Santa Fe, or something similar.
