Opened last week and a huge improvement over Mona's that once occupied the space.

Mezza plate
Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Lebneh, muhammara

Baba Ghanoush was not the over pureed fake smokey type. First time ever having muhammara, crazy good.

Lamb kebabs

Baked Feta. Great texture, smooth, no super salty taste, nice light herby honey drizzle on top.

Saj bread. Thin and pliable. Giant and great for dipping.

Falafel was good as were the kaftas.

Saj Instagram account

Very reasonable on price. Not try hard fancy like Shaya. Going to go back and try a lunch wrap soon.

No alcohol served, not sure if it is byob. Didn't ask if they were getting a license.

Ahh was curious about this place. Gf and I peaked in the window while walking to pick up Long Chim (it was meh). Will be checking this out.

Also planning to get around to Val’s on Freret soon. I’ve been twice for frozen margs already. They admittedly are not very good but it’s three blocks from me so convenience wins. Planning to grab tacos and salsa soon. Another Mexican place is opening in the old Freret Beer Room too...called Mr. Tequila lol.

Yeah closed Monday’s. Ima reserve judgement til I try the food, but the margs need some fixing up. Too much sour/citrus taste. Salsa is $5 a pop too, which seems high...but it’s a cool spot.

Had it for dinner last night. It will stay BYOB according to the hostess. What I thought was funny is that I paid with a credit card and I noticed on my statement today that the merchant was Mona’s. I wonder if this is just a rebranding of the ownership into a more upscale Mediterranean place.

I’m pretty sure that’s what it is. Mona’s shutdown very abruptly and reopened pretty quick as an upscale Mona’s with a new upscale name. They also sort of copied Justine’s ivy wall...pretty smart tbh.

Passed by a few weeks ago before they opened. Really like the work they did to renovate the space. Prices seem reasonable. I hope to check it out soon.

I was wondering if that was reflection of ownership, figured Devillier would have been more of a figure in the opening.

I find it amazing in this day and age that a place can open and have hardly any online presence. Just an instagram account. Not even a basic website, or a facebook page. No Yelp entry.

edit: makes sense from the above that this looks to be just the same Mona's owners with a quick rebrand to make an upscale location.

Menu, which can only be found on their temporary instagram story

Haven't been there yet, but of all the mediterranean places I've tried, 1000 Figs gets my vote.
