I inherited a double burner from my neighbor who is moving. It’s rusted but works fine. Should I even bother wire brushing it or just let it ride?

Yeah, brush it down with a wire brush and get it nice and shiny. Then next week, do it again. Then next week again, next week again, again, again.

I knocked the rust off with a wire brush on mine then sprayed on some Rustoleum high temp spray paint

If it works fine, just go with it. You don't even need a double jet most of the time unless you are using a 100 qt or bigger pot. My single jet with an upgraded 30 PSI regulator gets a 100 qt pot boiling in 12 minutes.

how long does that paint last?
I got the same problem with the double burner. May have to get it repainted. Rust doesn't seems to hurt anything except cleaning up or storing it lol.

Have you tried a thin coating of oil after cleaning? Heat up with the oil on it so that it's seasoned like a cast iron pan.
