I stopped at a roadside truck yesterday and asked the guy if they were Washington Parish melons. He says no, they are some other locally grown melons (I was in East Feleciana parish), but were good and sweet. How much?
$10- non negotiable. I drove off.

$10 just seems high to me even if they had been Washington Parish melons. Am I missing something.

That's higher than giraffe pussy.

I bought a medium sized seedless watermelon from Rouse's over the weekend for $3.

I agree, $10 for a watermelon is outrageous. You can buy them in the supermarkets all day long for $5 or less.

Hope he's offering a reach around with that price. Rouses has them all day for $3-$4. Ole baw with his pickup out on 190 sells them for $5

Not sure if it is still the same, but all the AG stores sell local watermelons anyway. The same people who set up shop on the side of the road would stop at the stores first and unload some.

Unfortunately this is not always true...im in the delivery business and the watermelon man told me that he gets most of his melons from Florida and I saw him at all the stores

A great watermelon is worth $10. An average watermelon is not.

Mississippi Smith County watermelons are the standard which all others are judged. I have yet to find a Louisiana Washington Parish watermelon worthy of the hype.
