I have a friend staying in New Orleans for the week . What are some places I should steer him to that are walking distance from the Sheraton ?

Every French Quarter and CBD restaurant is within walking distance of the Sheraton. The closest of the close are Cafe Giovanni, Le Foret, Palace Cafe, Chophouse, Rambla and Restaurant August.
Those are the nicer places, and Restaurant August is far and away the best of those.

well, he's right across the street from the FQ so there are tons of options. i'd recommend Le Foret if he doesn't mind dropping some bucks and doesn't want to venture into the Q.
but literally, there are dozens of restaurants he could walk to from there.

Pelican Club or Mr. B's if he doesn't want to go the real high end route.

The Bon Ton without doubt is one he has to hit.

You literally have among the most high quality restaurants per square inch of almost anywhere in the country within walking distance of that area.
Le Foret and Restaurant August are two STELLAR suggestions, but there are lots of places. Mr. B's, Giovanni, etc.

Who has the best poboys nearby?

Johnny's, but he could take the Canal St. streetcar, get off at Jeff Davis, and walk two blocks to Parkway. I would recommend that much more than Johnny's. While good, Johnny's is, IMO, overrated on this forum. It's uncomfortable ordering and eating there as well because it's so crowded.

Palace Cafe is a great spot! Been several times and always found it great!

Palace Cafe is the very definition of average. Despite that, I still kind of like the place. Nice location, nice view, pretty good gumbo, ok prices. Everything else is alright. There are much much better restaurants within walking distance.
