Lunch today-
Hitch
300 Drayton St
It wasn't a destination, just walked past it while walking squares.
Relaxed vibe, excellent service.
Order-
2 smash burgers with waffle fries- Freddy's smash burgers are better, and the fries were undercooked.
I had an appetizer for lunch, Cheese steak Egg rolls. I don't like egg rolls, but I love cheese steaks so I gave it a try. And it was good. I'd order them again.
The bloody mary is very good if you upgrade from the well vodka to Goose. Great for walking around with.
This restaurant is otherwise unremarkable.

Indeed. For expediency of my post, I just identified it as Google identified it.
For dinner tonight we just went to mellow mushroom by the Sorrel-Weed House where we had a tour booked.
Nothing remarkable to report regarding the food tonight.

Today-
Lunch at Strange Bird Cafe, South of Forsyth Park on the corner of W Henry and Barnard.
It's in some kind of old rail car tricked out like a diner. It is Southwest Style food.
Something different, and off the beaten path.
My wife had the 3 taco's with refried butter beans on the side.
I had the chimichanga with pork as the protein.
My son had the fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese.
My wife has a pamona which was very tequila forward, I had a tropicalia.
The refried butter beans weren't bad, but they were weird. Different.
The tacos were 5 stars.
Chimichanga 3 stars.
Chicken sandwich 4 stars.
Service 5 stars.
Atmosphere 5 stars.
Price was very good, less of a tourist markup due to location.
We headed toward the river later for dinner and another tour. Separate post incoming for that.

Sorry Charlie's Oyster Bar This one is really close to the river.
The location was convenient because it borders City Market where our carriage tour departed from at 7:20.
3 oysters available at the oyster bar. Local Savannah, James River VA, Chesapeake VA. The James River VA oysters were half the price of the other two, so we got a sampler with 4 of each on the half shell.
The Savannah ones tasted the best, but were really small.
The Chesapeake VA oysters were also really good, and a little larger.
The James River oysters were the largest, but also the least good. They weren't bad by any means, they just weren't as good as the other two offerings.
Then we got 5 oysters casino. I've never had them that way, and it was their only roasted oyster option that was gluten free (my wife is on doctor's orders as of last week to stop eating gluten).
They were ok. 5 out of 10 I'd say. Unremarkable but not bad.
My wife's entree was the Steak Frites. NY strip with french fries. Ordered medium rare. Came out almost blue. The fries were soggy because the oil wasn't hot enough when they put them in. 4/10.
I had the grouper over parmesan cheese grits with some kind of tomato puree dumped on it. If you scrape off the tomato concoction, and just eat the grouper with the grits, it was excellent. 5/10
Service was 5 stars.
Atmosphere 5 stars.
Price was commiserate with location.

The Olde Pink House
I retract my recommendation. For years I have recommended this place because it has always been the best meal I've had in Savannah on every visit. I'm not alone in this, as many other people on this board also recommend it whenever a Savannah thread pops up.
For our final night in Savannah, our reservations (made well in advance) were honored with no wait, which is always great. Atmosphere and service were both 5 stars, as usual. The ambience is the fact you are having dinner in the oldest residence in Savannah (1771) that is still standing- a huge three story mansion converted to a restaurant.
Apps-
Roasted Oysters, 6 with 3 varieties. One had a watermelon relish, one with a chow chow relish, and with something I don't remember. None of them were good.
Cheese Plate- I don't recall the three varieties of cheese, they were all good, but there wasn't a standout or "feature" cheese, they were all just pretty good cheeses. Meh.
Cheese biscuits- these are complimentary but they are nowhere near as good as Red Lobster. Dry, even with the whipped butter I slathered on. Like they had been sitting out under a heat lamp for a very long time, or not enough butter/lard cut into the batter.
Entree's
Filet with a red wine reduction. I forget the side. My wife gave me a big bite. It was cooked perfectly to medium rare, but still really chewy. Definitely not prime, which one would expect with the $72 price tag. The reduction was good but overpowering. It didn't compliment the flavor of the steak, it took it over. Might as well have been A1.
The Special- Grouper filet stuffed with crab cake over mashed potatoes with a side of green beans. There was nothing wrong with the grouper, other than being unremarkable. The "crab cake" was just mush, no crust or texture to it at all. It would have been much better to replace the mediocre mashed potatoes with some buttery grits, saute the grouper and plate on the grits, then make a proper crab cake and place on top, then some sort of interesting drizzle over top. But that's not what they did. The green beans were fresh but terrible. I don't think they were seasoned at all. I rarely add salt to anything at the table, but these definitely needed some. Very disappointed with the $86 price tag.
Edit to add- forgot to add my son's entree. Fried Chicken with Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese is the casserole style that's well done and crunchy on top which I love, but like the biscuits, this had clearly been sitting out for quite a while, more than a couple hours, under a heat lamp, not very good. The fried chicken was a huge portion, just a giant pile of fried chicken. There was nothing wrong with it, other than it was completely unremarkable. It didn't have much spice or flavor of any kind. It was crispy, it was fried chicken, but nothing really more than that.
Very disappointing outing to Olde Pink House. Maybe their kitchen just had a shite day? I don't know
Also, most expensive meal of the trip.

More often than not, Olde Pink House is a great experience. I’ve eaten there more times than I can remember. Hopefully, this was a one-off.
