I would go to one of those John Besh owned restraurants like Restaurant August.

Everyone should do a trip to Commander's Palace once in their life just because its such an institution in that city. And it's good.

OP if you do a search there are more New Orleans rec threads on this board from people that live around that area than you could possibly read in a day.

Here's 80+ off the top of my head in just Orleans that I would go to before Drago's ever crossed my mind. Shouldn't be too difficult for someone to add in a few that I forgot.

Fair enough. Take your upvote. I had my OT glasses on when I posted the first comment. And frick yeah if OP can get in to August and has the cash to spare, I would recommend that in a heartbeat.

Chargrilled oysters from Drago's are fantastic though. I don't care what anyone says, if you disagree with that statement, you're just wrong. There is a reason that they stay in business, and full 90% of the time, in spite of the fact that the rest of the food there is mediocre at best.

And if someone is in that particular area, especially staying at the Hilton, I think it would be a mistake to not stop in and try them.

Agree with you 100%. Damn good oysters and fried seafood is also on point. If you want true New Orleans food, get 6 chargrilled then catch a cab somewhere else.
