re: Restaurant Recommendations for London/Paris/Rome

Mentioned earlier...don't miss L'Avant Comptoir in the Marais for lunch...locals only, standing room for the most part but the menu tiles hanging from the ceiling provide a fun, unique experience.

Also had a great 3 course price-fix dinner ($35-40) at Le Florimond, think it's four or five blocks from the Eiffel.

In London, Veeraswamy...oldest Indian restaurant in town. Service is impeccable, and even if you're underdressed (I was in jeans & polo) they will still treat you like royalty. Absolutely delicious.

I'll see if I can remember my Rome spots and post later.

We stumbled across Gelateria la Romana on our last visit to Rome. After visiting numberous gelaterias across Italy (Florence and Venice), it still remained our favorite. An old friend once offered me some traveling advice when looking for a good Gelateria--always go for the closed container gelato.

Not in the Marais, it lies off from Saint-Germain next to the odeon metro stop. It is very good but can be very crowded. Your best bet to eat "comfortably" is by going at the opening time. The employees can be a bit snarky if you ask blanket questions like, "what's good" or "what do you recommend" so keep that in mind if you or your companions are easily offended. I watched a clueless Californian get the run around and leave in a tiff.

Also in Paris Prémices in the 9th is very good for a lunch or dinner and Bistrot Belhara in the 7th is also very good.

For grab and go eating to enjoy in one of the gardens I'd recommend chez le libinais. Really good Lebanese wraps for cheap. Located in the Latin quarter and an easy walk to Tuileries or Luxembourg gardens.

The Roman ghetto does have some interesting food, including an ancient bakery: Pasticcera Boccione, LINK It is definitely not a fancy place, but it is "real"...and the centro storico of Rome has shockingly few locals' spots left.

For a few years, I had friends living in the Ghetto, and my morning coffee stop was always Bar del Cappuccino, a very typical Roman coffee bar (think small, stand up coffee plus a few light cafe items, tramezzini, etc) right by a multi-line bus stop on via Arenula, #50. Family run, papa Luigi runs the espresso machine, son & daughter tend to the customers, and Mamma runs the cash register. Affordable (like 1.80 for a caffe grande, 1 euro for espresso), excellent Roman espresso, mostly locals.
