We have a nesco 6qt cooker, going put some beans in tomorrow to cook all day.

Normally, we use a crock pot with hi/med/low settings but we dont have it anymore.

This nesco one just has temperature settings from 150-400 degrees. So what temp should I put it on so they arent burnt to a crisp when we get home?

Just searched and the crockpot low setting is 200 and the high setting is 300. I usually cook red beans on low if I’m gone all day.

Is it? I figured it was somewhere between 200-250.

I guess I could could have googled crockpot settings, I was searching for temp settings to cook beans.

Thank you.

Get them to the boil in a regular pot first, then transfer to LOW in the cooker all day.

I would set it at 200 and let it rip all day.

Yes 200 for New Orleans style red beans. However if you prefer the more “sloppy” Natchitoches style I would suggest 225-233 and more water.

I do 1 pound of soaked and washed beans in a 7 qt. crock pot with 6 cups of water, meat and seasonings for 8 hours at 300. Comes out creamy, and right in the sweet spot between water and spackle. Not too runny, but not too pasty.

Well I think our cooker has a temperature issue.

It was set at like 215. Came home to some burned beans. House smells lovely.

Im going to put it together and check the temperature. I knew there was a reason we werent using this thing.

I know that mine on high will have a little bubble along the edge, but that is it. So maybe like 210? Should keep it from burning.

Temp was taken without the cooking tray or whatever they call it inserted so it would be a little cooler than that, but I think I have an issue.

Time for a new crock pot. Maybe you can repurpose the old one for searing steaks.
