You don't have to, you'll just have to cook them longer if you don't.

You dont have to. If pressed for time, pour boiling water over them and let sit for as long as you can.
Did some Saturday without presoaking, and although they took longer still came fine.

Nope, rinse first, cover with a an inch of water over beans, bring to a boil for five minutes, cover with lid. One hour of soak time later you can start cooking.

In fact, Im gonna start a war. I think red beans come out better when they arent soaked overnight. The bean stays firmer and doesn't disintegrate as easily. But the starch or whatever it is (not a scientist) still thickens the sauce.

You can do a quick soak. Instructions should be on the back of the package.

Come on bro', I would have thought your recipe consisted of driving directions to the Popeye's on Pinhook and S. College!

quote:Call me what you will CIT, but I've eaten both and honestly, i find no difference tween soaked and canned beans, especially the Trappeys. I use the blue runners mainly for "gravy" and to thicken. I boil my sausage (Richard's pork) with yellow onions and I use the water and onions without straining the "sausage stock". Adds flavor to the beans. If thats cheatin, well then so be it.
Cheater!!

Are you eating them tomorrow? You need to put them on now if you plan on eating them tonight.
