Recteq at high temps

I have a 590 and every time I do I reverse sear it flares up on me pretty bad. Tri tip is one of my favorite things to do. 250 until it hits temp and then I pull it and crank it up to 500 to sear. I get pretty bad flare ups and get a little more burnt crust than I’d like on the steak.
And yes I do clean my grill regularly.
I really have loved the grill since I’ve bought it but this is my only complaint, so I’m asking if anyone else has these same issues and if you’ve come up with a solution?

I’ve got the 700 and never once had a flare up when cooking at high temps.

You could try searing in a cast iron pan. Just put the pan on the rectec.

Same for me. I did have a moderate size fire one time, but that was a butter, fat and me problem.
Edit: I do the sear on the flat side of the grill grate though. Not sure if that makes any difference, but I don't think it would.

If I’m searing, it’s on the flat side of my grill grates, so that’s not it.

Got 700 never had a flare up. I do have grill grates for high heat searing

how is it flaring up with indirect heat? Maybe need to clean the drip tray?

Are those meant for high heat? Most smokers are not.

I haven’t bought the searing grates for it. Seems like this should fix the problem

I rarely take mine out - only when I'm doing long smokes and need the space. Can't imagine getting by without it.
And I've only used the flat side. Puts a very nice sear on whatever needs it.
