I might get laughed at, but I'm only offering my suggestion as something to consider. Not saying it's the best. Check out Rada. They are stupid cheap and stay sharp if you use a steel or their sharpening tool.

I have the Wusthof knives but you'll also need a good steak knife set if you don't already have one.

Follow up...
Thanks for yall's recommendations, I went with Wustof and she is happy. I got the 8 inch classic, the shears, the honing steel and a new block. Basically because the honing steel was $50, but the block/steel/shears were also $50. So she got block and shears as well.

I received the 13 pc block set of wustof gourmet for Xmas. Really happy with them so far.
