Trust the Vitamix recs. Buy one off of QVC when they run a special. It's worth every penny.

Ninja is fine for occasional use. We've had ours maybe 6-8 years and it still works great. Not sure if they're all like this, but instead of a blade at the bottom only, ours has a removable column with three sets of blades, and it makes frozen drinks very quickly since all the ice is getting chopped at the same time. We had a pretty heavy KitchenAid before that and actually wore out the motor.

We bought the Best Buy recommendation from AMerica’s Test Kitchen; breville bbl620. Works great. Makes frozen drinks or smoothies that come out perfectly smooth. Think it was about $180 or so.

Vitamix E310 - if you just want a basic workhorse. One dial and two switches. It's simply a really good blender. I have the personal cup adapter as well and use it pretty much every day. Can be had for under $300. Got ours at Best Buy price matching Amazon for $245, I believe.

I have a Ninja at home and a knock off at the office.
Ninja is the best blender I've ever used.
