porter fries at the bulldog are on another level of awesome, don't care what anyone says. I have had the cheese fries at the pelican house and do concur that they suck.

I hear you. My point was that judging an establishment by a typical "bar food" staple when it isn't really attempting to be a "bar" strikes me as a bit silly.
