My best friend is from Missouri and gets deathly ill from eating oysters. I see a pattern here!

I've always thought Vibrio was one of those things immune system is more or less irrelevant for. Perhaps you can fight back, but the bacteria is so novel that crisis is likely.

Doubt they will reveal the restaurant because of bad publicity but it really could have happen anywhere. There were probably dozens of others that ate from that same batch of oysters and showed no signs of illness. It's almost always an older person with compromised immune systems and underlying health problems.
I haven't eaten raw oysters in years but when I did we'd always wait until winter when the cold weather was sustained to buy a sack. I rarely eat raw ever since I first tried charbroiled oysters though. Hard to resist them charbroiled covered in butter, parmesan, and garlic.
