Hey people i just got into this thread because of my recent motivation to get back in shape and your stories are proof and motivation that spirit and drive matched with a solid plan and goals, you can be where you want to. As far as social situations and seeming weird that your not stuffing your face, if your friends are mature enough to realize what your trying to accomplish then it shouldn't be an issue. Also it may just be me but i never really pay attention to what people at social events are or aren't eating. Remember we got this way because we stuffed our faces too much, not its time to back off and some day we can eat those cupcakes again if we want, in moderation.

Ok, yeah I see that now. Glad I'm not the only one who has the Atkins idea of weight loss helping them. I sometimes get resistance from friends/acquaintances about the low carb' but it works for me. In reading some of the entries I see the water issue brought up alot. I have a strong biology, anatomy, physiology background and I believe that adequate amounts of water is necessary when on this diet to help flush the kidneys of toxins as a result of fat loss.We have a fairly consistent number of fat cells, they are just get bigger or smaller. Also I am a big proponent of weighing once a week so the fluctuations seen day to day aren't a let down. Also on the water issue, if your body isn't getting adequate amounts of water it may store water, so by not drinking you may have the opposite effect on your body. Just a few of my thoughts. And one more thing, I think cardio exercise is a must for too many reasons to list.

When taking on a low-carb diet, the most important thing you can do is arm yourself with knowledge so that detractors and wannabe doctors (aka your friends that heard from a friend of a friend who's a nurse for a friend's doctor ) don't get you down. There's SO much misinformation about low carb living and Atkins it's unreal. I had to deal with family and friends telling me not to do Atkins for the first 3-4 months. Once results started showing they shut up.

One MAJOR tip for Atkins is that you will gain 10 to 15 pounds back so you need to lower your goal by 10 to 15 pounds.

If you have read this thread you will know I have hit my goal and shot up 10 to 15 pounds twice and both time it had nothing to do with caloric intake.

Atkins is a diuretic and once you go back to carbs your body holds onto water like Scrooge hoards his gold.

This time I am trying to lose 10 to 15 below my goal weight so that when I add that water weight back on, I will be near my goal.

323/165.5/165

165 is my goal but to stick to 165 I may need to get to 155.

Nice!

I'm 2 pounds from my low and I will be continuing Atkins until T-Giving.

Then as I have said before, I will eat a house over T-Giving. Then work it off in time to eat a house over Christmas and New Years.

Not sure why diet coke would make you feel bloated.

Initially, I only drank water for about 9 months because I read the caffeine could mess you up, then I started drinking coffee last November for the first time in my life and I was off the the races.

Caffeine may spike your hunger some but I was still able to drop from 235 to 165 after drinking caffeine.

Now I drink diet drinks and coffee.

This could be one of those things that hits one person harder than the other but I had no problem with diet drinks. I doubt that is what is causing your bloat.

I drink coke zero. And coffee. I get to work and have 2 cups of coffee every morning. Sometimes instead of that I have a sugar free rockstar or a xenergy energy drink. Just depends on the mood; but none of it seems to affect me all that much in the weight loss dept.

yeah carbonation will make you feel bloated until you burp. But when I drink I burp the carbonation out in a matter of seconds.

I don't burp loudly unless I feel like it. I usually just let it out silently, and if I'm around people I turn my head away. I can't hold it in, so I do it politely. Happens when I drink anything, I guess while I'm drinking I swallow air too?

164.5

Just 1 pound from my low.

I;m off to Charlie's Seafood for lunch. They have a grilled shrimp salad. I need to get this but I am not sure my brain will pick the best option once I start smelling all that fried seafood.
