Seeing you struggle in maintenance makes me wonder how I'm going to handle maintenance. I think all I'll really want to do is introduce fruits. A fruit a day kind of thing. Maybe allow like 60g carbs/day with a cheat once in a while. Fruits, hummus, maybe some red beans once in a while..
This'll likely make a difference..

I also wasn't riding my bike much when I went into maintenance and I am back to 3 to 4 rides a week which will help me sweat some water out.
This'll likely make a difference..

Hoping to keep a good little losing streak going since there wont be a LSU party to attend this weekend. Chips and dips are my weakness.

I didnt say i was slowing down on the alchohol. Just the chips and dips! I havent found where the alchohol has affected my losing much. I generally drink ultras or maker's and water.

Well, everyone's different. At first the alcohol didn't affect my weight loss at all. I was getting hammered every weekend. But now I find it stalls me if I do that.

if you watch what you drink, booze shouldn't physically hurt you that much in the weight loss department .. i would think where it gets you is when you catch a buzz and your inhibitions drop and you reach for the nachos instead of the celery sticks ..

1200 calories yesterday, actually 1141 and I gain two freaking pounds.
I guess the 10 pound gain last time I tried maintenance was all from the switch from Atkins to carbs and not sodium related.
How the frak do you gain two pounds on 1141 calories?
I must have retained every single drop of water yesterday to pack that on.
I haven't done a 20 mile ride in a long time because of the heat so I may try one today to sweat some of that water out. Damn carbs.

I almost blew up on someone yesterday. Went jog/walk the LSU lakes with a friend and a friend of his. We were running and my friend mentioned how much weight I've lost and the other friend (a girl) said "that's impressive, and I'm sure you feel much healthier and better. how'd you do it?" I said "low carb, Atkins, and exercise." The first thing out of this girl's mouth is "you know Atkins died of a heart attack, right?"
My response was, "So? You know my grandpa had a heart attack while on weight watchers? Yep, must be bad for your heart." She responded with "eating all that meat is not healthy." I had to woo-sah and calm down and just said "okay". Chick is just lucky she was so damn cute and I want to hit on her
Another person that knows literally nothing about the diet besides what her cousin's sister's friend's mom told her, you know? So annoying.

Little FYI for future discussions. To be honest Atkins did
Have a mild heart condition, hey he was in his 70's
On April 8, 2003, at age 72, Dr. Atkins slipped on the ice while walking to work, hitting his head and causing bleeding around his brain. He lost consciousness on the way to the hospital, where he spent two weeks in intensive care. His body deteriorated rapidly and he suffered massive organ failure. During this time, his body apparently retained an enormous amount of fluid, and his weight at death was recorded at 258 pounds. His death certificate states that the cause of death was "blunt impact injury of head with epidural hematoma".
Following this, a Nebraska doctor known to be anti-Atkins, and associated with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, requested Dr. Atkins' medical records, which should not have been released, but which mistakenly were sent. The Medical Examiner's report had a hand-written note that Atkins had a history of myocardial infarction (heart attack), congestive heart failure, and hypertension (written "h/o MI, CHF, HTN"). The above Committee made much of this and began the rumor that Atkins had "died of his own diet". The misconceptions remain to this day.
The year following his death, his widow released a statement taking what she called "unscrupulous individuals" to task for spreading falsehoods about her husband.
Apparently, those individuals are still having a measure of success.
* In March 2007, Newsweek magazine published a correction stating, "An earlier version of this story contained an inaccurate account of events surrounding the death of Dr. Robert Atkins. Newsweek regrets the error."

How Did Atkins Die?
The Truth About Atkins' Death
Years after his death in 2003, the rumor that Dr. Robert Atkins "died of his own diet" persists. The falsehoods concerning his death are mainly propagated by the vegan group the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and related groups and individuals. However, even the mainstream media is not blameless. In March 2007, Newsweek magazine published an opinion piece by Dr. Dean Ornish which contained the same untruths, which were later retracted by the magazine*.
Here are the facts as I have been able to ascertain them.
How long was Atkins on his diet?
Dr. Atkins was a cardiologist who first developed his diet in the early 70's, after becoming convinced that an excess of carbohydrate was having negative effects on his patients' health and weight. He published his first book, Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution in 1972, and many times over the years stated that he followed his plan himself. He was very public, appearing on television many times and having many photos taken. By all accounts he was healthy and fit for most of that time.
Cardiomyopathy
In 2000, Dr. Atkins developed cardiomyopathy, an incurable heart condition which has quite a few different causes. His was thought to be from a viral illness, and his physician stated at the time that there was no evidence that his diet contributed to the condition. His coronary arteries were reported to have been checked at that time and found to be free of blockages.
Cardiomyopathy makes it more likely that a person will have a cardiac arrest (heart stopping), which happened to him two years later. Again, the cardiac arrest was not thought to be diet related. His cardiologist stated that (other than the cardiomyopathy), Atkins had "an extraordinarily healthy cardiovascular system". News report about that incident.
Was Atkins Overweight?
William Leith, an writer who interviewed him around the time of his cardiac arrest stated that "he looks to be just under 6 feet tall and around 200 lbs – not skinny, not thin, but definitely not fat." A report from Atkins Nutritionals states that he played tennis competitively and that his weight was frequently checked, and in the years before his death was below 195, and six feet tall. And a medical report at the time of his admission to the hospital, which was later made public by his widow, states that he was 195 lbs on admission to the hospital.

I am a little hurt by no one mentioning the lack of the Weekend Report with Lloyd Braun since before my Dallas trip.
I finally made it back to my weigh-in this week. I skipped last week because of tailgating and the fact that I knew I'd still be up from Dallas. So eating whatever I wanted for 5-6 days in Dallas took me 3 weeks to lose. Good to know.
So at today's weigh-in, I lost 0.2 - an average of 0.066667 per week the past 3 weeks.
279.8/233.2/165 - only 3.4 away from the 50# mark!
Onward and downward!!

Ahhh...now I can relax. After weeks on pins and needles awaiting the triumphant return of the Weekend Report With Lloyd Braun, the day has finally arrived. Welcome Back!
323/170.2/165
I went up again but this time is was my fault. I had a wee bit of a meltdown last night and ate my apartment.
If it wasn't nailed down, I ate it.
So I am actually happy with just a .5 pound gain.

Panic mode! I think the Friday feast skipped a day and nailed me on the scale today.
323/173/165
3 darn pounds in one day! Only had about 1700 calories yesterday.
Seems the whole back to carbs thing, is working about as good as it did last time.
Looks like I may be headed back to Atkins again.
