i put 3 layers on mine waiting for it to stop smoking before adding each layer. I have some pretty good heat resistant gloves that i used. Used an old hand towel to spread the oil. surprised the neighbors didn't call the fire dept during the first application.

i put 4 layers on mine the other night, straight LARD.
gonna cook on it soon. im hungry. see i like the lip, the other model you could splash oil off the end onto you. I think the back grease trap hole is plenty big enough....the grease trough..i would like one about double or triple that that size.

yeah that's what i was referring to. it doesn't look like it holds a lot of grease.

yeah, i get that. i just know i'm going to have burn marks on my hands or arms from that thing.

I’ve burned myself a couple of times. Always during cleaning. It just gets hot AF over it cooking on a hot day.

I have cooked fried rice and quesadillas more in the last month than I ever have before because this thing makes it so well. It actually gets hot enough to sear a steak very well.

I'm looking at one of these for an outdoor kitchen. Would it be possible to build it into the cabinets with the rear drain?

i wonder when the hard covers will be available?

I think so but you might want to contact Blackstone directly with that question.

oohh yea. i did all the oil burns and once i started cooking bacon it started flaking off. so idk what it is. I guess just burrning that much on there at one time wasnt the best idea. But it is cooking well.
Cooked pork chops, fish, some thin steaks, and philly cheese steaks.

Just did some breakfast stuff today. Bacon, breakfast sausage and pancakes. Cooked very well. Everything came out really good. just a bit of sticking in the very beginning.
One drawback I can see so far is the grease cup. It's not nearly big enough. I cooked 1 1/2 lbs of bacon and about 1 lb of breakfast sausage patties and the cup was already 1/2 full. Can't imagine how it would handle a big cook.
Also, i noticed that liquids tend to pool in the back corners.
went to the website to try to order a few extra grease cups but, I don't see the cups for this model listed.
And, the index in the manual says reordering parts is on page 23. But, the manual only goes to page 22.

On the old griddles people would hang a small metal pail to catch the grease. Is that possible with the new rear spillover?
Posted on 8/4/18 at 8:29 pm to CarRamrod
I bought the 28" a few weeks ago because I didn't think I needed that big of a griddle surface. Was pretty disappointed to find out it is about the height of the bottom of my balls. Are there any mod kits to make these griddles any taller? Or are they purposefully made for small girly-men? I literally have to stoop over at the waist to cook on this thing. It's like I'm cooking on my little girl's E-Z bake oven.

i guess you could rig something to do that. i think the old model made it doable because the drain channel stuck out to the side? this cup hangs over the frame under the back edge of the griddle top. This thing could easily use a grease cup 3-4 times the size supplied.

Yeah. The grease trap is the weak point especially with a bunch of bacon.

Anyone here own the stainless version

Stainless version still has the cast iron griddle.

Got a little more practice with mine this past week.
Cooked rib-eyes during the week
Philly cheese steaks Saturday and Breakfast Sunday.
While the rib-eyes were good, I think I still do them better on a grill. Maybe over time that will change.
Philly cheese steaks came out pretty good. Need to work on the transfer from griddle to bun. It sure looks a lot easier on tv.
Bacon and eggs came out really good. Love having the extra room to be able to flip the fried eggs.
The big drawback so far is that cleaning the griddle immediately after cooking leads to the chef getting cold or slightly warm food.
And, as expected, rubbed the side of my hand against the lip on the front. That was fun !
so far, i'm really happy with this rig. Just need lots of practice.
