You could save on this by switching to Better Than Bouillon soup base. According to America's Test Kitchen, it beats canned stock.

Also talk to your produce mgr, they sell a 5 pound bag of chopped onions for $7.99 at just about every store in ascension

Or, he could invest in food processor and cut his own veg, buy rotisserie chickens, debone and save meat for the recipe or later on in the week, and use bones and carrots, garlic, veg ends to make his own stock the night before event.



I'll agree though... Base is far superior to stock in a box, and much cheaper too.

Lots of ways to cut that price down significantly. Half actually.

Considering you're only paying for ingredients even 75-80 bucks is a deal.
