Will cover, you enjoying that blaze grill? I've considered getting that one.

nice place, all that is missing is an apparatus that can get you a better sear on that steak. BGE or a primo
A beer upgrade is also in order.

What temp do you cook the steak to?

Yes, thoroughly enjoying my Blaze grill. No issues whatsoever, lights up when needed and easy to clean and maintain.

Lester, I have a Primo Oval XL. Didn't use it, only because of very limited amount searing time needed for steak. I went the easy route and just fired up the gas grill.

Ok so I got me a prime NY strip and I think I want to try this tomorrow. Here is what I have gathered. Tell me what to change.
1. Salt and pepper steak heavily. Put in pre heated 275 degree oven after steak sits out about 20-30 mins.
2. Leave in oven for 45 minutes.
3. Let rest for 15 minutes.
4. Put on grill about a minute and 30 seconds per side.
Is this the easiest way? I have a charcoal pit. Should I put directly over the coals or off to the side?

That is my exact method except I do 250 in the oven. I do directly over coals, don't really have flare ups.

Seems easy as I am in no rush. Will be perfect whole drinking beer and hanging in the pool.

Steak does not need to come to room temperature before placing it in the oven.
To be safe, by ensuring that you don't overcook it, you may want to reduce heat and/or shorten your time steak is in the oven. The true test is to use a food thermometer.

Depending on how high your grill is (and how thick your steak is), 1 minute may on each side may be all that is necessary.

Direct heat. As hot as possible.

Exactly.
We're grilling sausage and chicken tomorrow.
And on Wednesday night, homemade chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas.
Just picked up a brisket today at Costco. Need to learn pointers on brisket as this will be my first one cooking.

Don't go by time, go by internal temperature.
