How much different would an enamel cast iron pot vs a traditional cast iron be?

Do you get that much more gratin with a traditional cast iron? Enamel is just so much easier to clean up

Has anyone done a head to head comparison

How big of a pot are you talking about. Yes, enamel is quite a bit more expensive especially the bigger you go but I doubt you can find an enamel bigger that about 13-14 qts.

Then yes, I'd go with the enameled. More useful.

If you go with lodge you can get a 7qt cast iron and a 6qt enameled for just over $100 total. Great pots.

How big is the family?

I make a 4 cup rice jambalaya with 3-4 lbs of protein in a 7.5 Quart Lodge. That's good enough to feed my family of 4 and have leftovers

I've always used traditional cast iron and had no problems. It's much cheaper than enameled and has the nonstick properties. I think the only difference is going to be in the cleanup, you don't have to worry about the enameled rusting. I could be wrong though, I've never cooked on enameled. I love my cast iron pots though, you can't go wrong with them.

I use both and don't really notice a difference.

However, I can be more rough with the plain cast iron. Maybe it's in my head but the enamel seems more fragile.

I have both enamel and cast iron

I guess im asking if anyone has noticed a difference in the amount of gratin they can get with either. Or any significant difference in flavor
