I've always though it would be more appealing to visit that location if the bar was in the front of the place and one had the ability to look out at the lot/highway. Albeit not the best view, far better than the rear of the building.

Restaurants in general seem to be hurting. Younger people seem to be drinking less and the huge millennial generation is all staying home and having kids. There is more of a transition to having a nice home, outdoor kitchen, and social club membership.

Portobellos was one of my favorite places before Sclafani took over. Big portions, delicious, and affordable. The pork chops on the old menu were amazing.
Went maybe twice after he took over. A date where it cost a fortune and slow service, plus the food wasn’t good especially for the cost. Went back a couple years later for lunch and they even fricked that up.

While BR lags across the board in terms of restaurant atmosphere, the Portobello’s location kind of has a cool (by BR standards) courtyard feel to it. Someone needs to put a legitimately good restaurant there and it would become a neighborhood favorite. It doesn’t need to be an Italian joint, as Palermo is just fine for that, but something with a solid bar and wine list that caters to a crowd of regulars from the area would be a hit in that location.

Old Portabellos used to have a dish called the pasta jam, and it was like a pastalaya. Penne - spicy, but creamy. So awesome.

Maybe they can re-open Jack's, the restaurant before Kiva's and Portobello's.

To me, Portobello's is just a weird restaurant in the same way I dislike SoLou. Sorry, maybe an unpopular opinion.
The food is not bad at either, but the service is just off. They lack the meat and potatoes, so to speak, that make a restaurant run really well. I will say the Lafayette SoLou is completely different, in all the best ways.
IMO, It's why restaurants like French Market Bistro, Gino's, Mansur's, the Chimes, and Superior have been in business forever. They offer consistently good food and a hustling wait staff. Those restaurants operate in a seamless motion, where all the parts work together.
