Pellets vs charcoal, similar prices points, both have largely positive reviews. Which would you choose and why?

Charcoal has no moving parts. My vote is always a charcoal grill when the price point makes longevity the determining factor.

If you want a pellet grill, go with a much cheaper model.

You can get the best of both worlds with a Masterbuilt gravity feed smoker.

Do you have specific uses for each or just whichever one you feel like using that day?

Join the PK Grill Owner's Facebook page. You might be able to pick one up for cheap.

I’ve got a PK360 and I use Jealous Devil Briquettes. The only downside is space when smoking if you are cooking for a crowd. It will last forever, it works when I don’t have electricity, it’s easy to clean, it’s easy to use, and it’s a good looking grill on my back patio.

I would go with the charcoal. Especially if you already have an oven.

Really like the PK for steaks or something you want a good char on. I’ve never really done a slow cook on it

Two months ago I would have said pellet. I picked up a PKTX in July and have been pretty impressed. The shape is great for two zone cooking and the heat retention while not on par with a ceramic is better than any kettle I've had in the past. I can set it up to cook in about 20 min. The pellet still has its place in the rotation for long overnight cooks but flavor wise the charcoal is superior. Based on that alone id go PK over pellet.
