With the amount of people announced call a caterer bro that is a shitload of prepping and cooking and plating for amateurs to pull off with no experience with the job.

yeah, call a caterer.

i did this when my wife turned 40, albeit i did not invite 150 people. the caterer took care of the food, i went and bought all the alcohol. worked out good

Can you make suggestions for the menu. Want something "Cajun"- that you can eat standing up. More like a tailgate.

Jambalaya, boudin, red beans, crawfish pies, meat pies....hell you can eat just about anything except gumbo tailgate style, and even gumbo is pretty easy.

The caterer should be easily able to suggest things from off of their in house offerings with its cost set out by the head count expected.

Are your guests not going to be able to sit down anywhere for the entire party?

You can serve cups of gumbo which are easily eaten standing up. It's mighty difficult to hold a plate and fork or spoon and something to drink. Are you going to have places they can at least put a drink while they try to eat?

If you're wanting to cut corners and save a few bucks, get a buddy with a 20 gallon jambalaya pot and cook jambo...get boudin and boudin balls from Ronnies, go to Tony's and get some catfish, fry it up, head over to Laffy and get some pistollets(crawfish, shrimp) then of course fries and hush puppies.

Party at residence, Party scheduled for Jan 25, so patio dining is hit or miss. Tables for seating will be set up outside, by the bar. Inside seating is limited. I love the menu suggestions. We are trying to keep food costs down to $2100, liquor costs $1800.

Mini Muffaletta's. Jason'sDeli actually has some really good ones and I'm sure a caterer could come up with something, too.

If I never see another mini muffaletta at a party ever again, I'll be a happy guest. Why are those things everywhere? Bah. SOS.

I'm with the other posters, hire a caterer. Give 'em your budget and let 'em work up a proposal. Managing food for 150 in a home kitchen is not an amateur's task....unless you're doing an ultra-casual, jambalaya served out of the pot in the yard style event. And even then, you'll need designated "staff" (friends? family? college age friends of kids who want to earn a few bucks?).
