why is that?

besides being overpriced, i bought meat from there that was two or three days "before expiration" and smelled like arse when i got home. i was young and dumb then and cooked it anyway

When it comes to king cakes, I'd drive the 70 miles and buy one from Haydel's/Randazzo's/insertNOLAkingcakename. The places up here in B.R. or at least surrounding LSU campus are shite. Probably why a lot of the northern LA and Tejas LSU students think that Winn Dixie/Wally World kingcakes are amazing. Even though they taste like dried out cardboard . BTW I'm too lazy to venture to Siegen to try Ambrosia's kingcakes. I will have to make the drive soon.

I was born and raised in Metry brah so I know a thing or two about quality kingcakes . You can't tell me that a grocery store kingcake is better than a Randazzo's or a Haydel's. It's worth paying the extra $10-15 for one.

I really don't get the obsession over these things. They are just like a filled cinamon roll but to each his own.

Randazzos is about as good as Winn Dixie to me. Almost everything else ive tried is better than Randazzos. But dumbass riverwater drinking morons don't know any better so they think it's the best.

You BR people are really deprived if you think a king cake from Winn Dixie or Albertson's is even decent. Drive your arse south and find a Randazzo's.

I refuse to have one mailed to me...make my own and if I say so myself it kicks butt!! Combined two different recipes, one from a NOLA recipes website and it is wonderful. My son turned 11 this week and asked me to make one for his birthday cake at school. You can take the boy outta Louisiana but you can't take Louisiana outta the boy!! Loved that he wanted that for his birthday cake. Decorated it in purple and gold sugar and painted the tiger eye on fondant in the center. Turned out awesome.
