Not so sweet Moctail recipes needed

Father-in-law got out of MD Anderson today after round 1 of Chemo.
Looking for some non alcoholic drink recipes that aren’t sweet. He was typically a whiskey drinker but would enjoy just about anything. Just looking to offer him a little taste of something that might not sound like a child’s drink.
This is likely his last Christmas and just want to try to keep everyone in the best mood possible.

Just give him a little bourbon. Who is it going to hurt?
I remember having a high ball with my grandfather at his last Christmas. He was 94 and in assisted living. My aunts were pissed bc I gave him alcohol. We sat until the ice was water and he told us grandkids stories we had never heard. He passed away that spring.

Like Chappy said, if this is likely his last Christmas, and he was a whiskey drinker, make the man a whiskey cocktail a bit on the light side. frick is it going to hurt?
If you're intent on staying completely alcohol free, whiskey cocktails are probably the most difficult to replicate. On the other hand, vodka cocktails are the easiest to replicate, with gin being a bit trickier but still quite easy. Think a gussied up gin and tonic recipe with citrus and herbs (usually rosemary or thyme) over ice, sans gin.
Or, again, just make the man a light old fashioned.

bought this Tequila to make margaritas and was surprisingly good as an alternative (for the same reason you mentioned, it cut out the sweetness of making it just virgin)

I saw these at AM Mart in BR of all places. It won't hot the spot for whiskey, but it seems like a good gin substitute.

Why not try a "Virgin Mary" with your mixer kicked up a notch or two if he can handle a little spice.
Toss in a couple pickled green beans, large olive stuffed with pimento and a pod of pickled okra and you've got a drink and appetizer in a glass.
