Soby's. Get the marrow appetizer, shrimp and grits, and the carrot cake. Left there fat and happy. Bonus, it's right by Fall's park so you can walk around and check out the water fall that runs through town. Greenville is a cool town and definitely worth a long weekend.

There's a reason why much of the rest of the country thinks a steak house is the epitome of fine dining.

Well that's your problem boss. You're in the worst decent size city in the South. Was there Saturday and it's just been awful every single time.

Where exactly have you eaten in Cola?

I didn't mean for food specifically on that comment. I just meant in general from my experiences. I've only been 4-5 times, and have only been to one place that was cool (brewery near stadium). I'm sure there's some good stuff there, but the people I've encountered ruined my perception. We went to the Tyler Childers concert this past weekend and I've never had people fight/shove/elbow in a crowd so much, pick fights, spill drinks on you, etc. Then the bar quadruple charged my tab (one bottom shelf vodka soda for $20) and the bartender said she knows for a fact that she gave me 4 drinks. Again, I'm sure I'm still salty about this past weekend and the city has more to offer, but 4-5 strikeouts has killed it for me. Sucks because I pass through there a good bit from Greenville.

You think people from Louisiana don’t consider steakhouses fine dining? Have you ever even read this board before?

Well there's your first problem. He brought in every drunk white trash redneck in a 100 mile radius of here.

Where were the other places you went that you had a bad time at?

Columbia doesn't have a restaurant at the level of a Husk or McCrady's, but Motor Supply and Gervais and Vine in the Vista, Cellar on Greene in Five Points, Warmouth off North Main Street, and Terra across the river in West Columbia off Meeting St all have pretty damn good food in terms of upper end quality and/or South Carolina specialty dishes like Shrimp and Grits and Chicken Bog.

Then you have the quirky/specialty places like Pawley's Front Porch (burgers...featured on Triple D) and Blue Cactus Cafe (Korean) in Five Points, and Menkoi Ramen, Camon Sushi, and The Pot Smoker BBQ in the Vista. White Duck Taco Shop is also really good, but kind of out of the way over on Whaley street.

Can't really comment on the bar scene as those days are behind me. Tons of them in Five Points though, jam-packed with drunk USC chicks if that's your target. The Vista also has multiple bars, but tend to be a post-college professional crowd.

Most of the decent breweries are going to be around Wiliams-Brice Stadium. Conquest, River Rat, and Swamp Cabbage...in order of my preference.

Will check those out once this past weekend is out of my system! I guess I was more subjected to the more college areas which would make sense because none of us knew where to go. I went to River Rat last summer and enjoyed it. One of the workers had just gotten back from Louisiana and went to Parish and La 31 so we talked a while about that.
