thank for ruining everyone elses night out because you are too cheap to hire a babysitter or too lazy to raise your kids properly
Yeah, you definitely don't have kids.

If a crying kid in a restaurant ruins your evening then it's time to do a little self-assessment. The world doesn't revolve around anyone. Not you, not the parents going out to eat, not the guy that bitches about smoking everytime he goes to a bar........ See what I'm getting at? In NOLA, if you're going out to eat you know there's a 50/50 shot at being in a restaurant with babies/children.

“Ruins” may be too strong of a word/emotion, but let’s at least acknowledge that it makes it uncomfortable for most of the patrons in the restaurant trying to enjoy a well-deserved evening out.

How? Outside of a child just running laps and screaming, I can't say I've ever noticed other peoples kids at a restaurant.

agreed. We always tried to do the right thing though and pull the kiddo out to assess the situation. Not like you can always have a rational conversation with with a 2-3 year old.

Riiiiiiight...... perhaps you missed the part about the world not revolving around you. My wife and I went out with both of our kids from 6 weeks on just about every friday, saturday and sunday. We knew their schedules and just planned accordingly. We'd plan their lunch or dinner for when we were sitting down so that they had something to occupy the time while in the restaurant. You bring toys. You understand their cues. Sometimes they get fussy. Sometimes they decide to throw shite. If the fit is excessive you simply take them out of the building. I have yet to see a parent sit there when their kid is going ape-shite at any restaurant above Chili's grade. I'm sure that shite goes down nightly at Buffalo Wild Wings but not in Peche' or Emeril's or Commander's.

Where do you eat that you experience this kind of behavior? Chuck E Cheese?

I assure you my children have never ruined anyone else's night out.

Parents who take their kids to dinner wanted to. They weren't forced to because of the cost of a babysitter.

The fact you think wild kids come from lazy parents shows this thread you either don't have kids, or you are incompetent.

Literally any nice restaurant you feel like trying. My wife and I took our kids everywhere with us from 2 months on. That included Commanders, Antoine’s, Court of Two Sisters, Peche’, Luke, etc.
I wouldnt feel comfortable bringing kids there.
To answer the OP, we love bringing our kids to Blue Oak, but thats still very casual

I've only been to R'evolution once but that was for a company function. August? Absolutely. My wife's birthday dinner was there a few years in a row with a 2yr old and 4 month old. 3yr/16month, 4yr/2yr old. Now, keep in mind we always make the reservations as early as possible. I think August is something like 5pm. I will say we've never been the parents trying to take our 2yr old out to a nicer place for a 7-8pm dinner. And we always made reservations and let them know the age of the kids and that we'd like to be away from the main tables. Every restaurant has a few tables against a wall or in the back or whatever that they'll usually use for parents with small children.

Haven't been to August, but I've seen kids at R'evolution every time I've eaten there. Same with other very nice restaurants quite often.

Exactly Gris. The OP specifically asked about nicer places. If your're going to places like Outback and TGIFridays you're going to run into some shite head parents with mutant kids. That's a given.

I wont hate on people that want to do it. But I think its nice still having some environments for adults to enjoy only. Atmosphere is a part of dining, and I think some of the upscale restaurants are nice not having children there, even well-behaved ones. Just my two cents

Just seeing kids in the restaurant would change the atmosphere for you? Are you doing some touchy feely things under the table?
I'm sure there are some restaurants around that are dark and romantic which probably rarely see a child enter and you don't see many when you have a late reservation. However, meals and eating out are celebratory quite often and family events regardless of whether there's an actual occasion.

Nice night out at an upscale restauraunt is something I enjoy, and feels like stepping back to an older time and place for me
Children being there just takes me out of that vibe. Im not going to be mean or make mean faces at the family, just stating how I feel about it. And I have two young children of my own
I mean, why do we care about how food is plated? It doesnt change the way it tastes? Appearance is all part of it.
I understand others feel differently

I'm more aggravated by the table full of drunk 3rd year residents splitting $100 bottles of wine and acting like 15yr olds but I get why they're there too. If the sight of a kid in an upscale restaurant bothers you that's a you problem. I can't express enough that the world doesn't revolve around anyone. I think people can't wrap their brain around families being able to do stuff like that without jr. baby throwing his feces at the wall. Most kids in that setting you wouldn't even know were there if you didn't see them.

I can understand parents wanting a night out away from their kids not wanting to be around someone else's. However, other people like bringing their kids, so there's really not much you can do about it other than getting a private room or making late dinner reservations. Parents don't usually bring the young'uns out too late. You could choose restaurants which have tables in the bar area, as well.

You keep saying this, but it applies the people who bring infants to a nice restaurant
The infant cannot enjoy the experience
You cannot enjoy the experience if they throw a fit
And the people around you certainly cannot enjoy the experience if they act out
If they are well behaved, great, out of sight out of mind. Why even risk it though? Some people just lack self awareness I guess

It applies to everyone. I can’t be more clear about that. I don’t give a frick what anyone does as long as they aren’t physically harming my family in a restaurant.

Some people didn’t raise shitty kids and know how to keep a schedule and plan accordingly. If you waited to do shite until a baby can enjoy the experience you wouldn’t leave your house until it’s 6. The more you expose them to the more they get used to things. My girls were ordering off the menu at most restaurants by 5 or 6. We didn’t do the whole “they’ll have chicken fingers and fries” nonsense. We had a once a month Comander’s brunch group for years with parents we met at that brunch a few times. The staff would cut up with the kids constantly bringing them various animal shaped whatever from the kitchen or doing magic tricks or playing hide and seek with them. I guess I’ll never understand being that miserable in life to where a crying baby would ruin anything I’m doing.

Sounds like you have well behaved kids. Not everyone does
There are some places loud enough to where you can’t even hold a long conversation with people in your party much less give two shits if a baby is crying.
On the other hand, there are intimate places in the city with tables on top of each other. “I guess I’ll never understand being that miserable in life to where a crying baby would ruin anything I’m doing”
you are the problem dude, not the people who don’t want your snottty kids ruining their dinner

Again, the type of people bringing a baby to those places you’re describing are vastly different from the Buffalo Wild Wings crew. If you eat at nice places enough you’ll dine with families with one or..... GASP two children at the table and you’ve likely never even noticed them. This stern stance of “kids don’t belong in nice restaurants” is asinine at best. My assumption is most of the people bitching about this go to these places once a year and then form these opinions from their weekly Chili’s dinner with their work friends.
